Candlelight Vigil for the Victims of Typhoon Haiyan

Thursday, November 21, 2013
7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

On November 7, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan, a Category 5 typhoon with winds of nearly 200 mph, tore through the Central Philippines and left over 4,000 dead and almost 20,000 more injured and displaced. In remembrance and support of those affected by Typhoon Haiyan, Alyansa ng mga Kababayan, the Filipino Community at UC Irvine, will be hosting a candlelight vigil at 7:00PM this Thursday, November 22nd at the Student Center Terrace.

This will be an event to commemorate and show support for those affected by the typhoon, and we will provide an open floor for those who wish to have their friends’ and families’ stories heard.

Monetary and physical donations will be accepted at the event and throughout the following weeks. In exchange for a small donation of $3 or more, you will be given a candle that represents a statistic of Typhoon Haiyan’s impact. A fundraising after-event at Mick’s Karma Bar** will also follow the vigil.

All of our efforts and proceeds will go towards, and be distributed by, the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns, USA. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Parking will be available at the Student Center Parking Structure at the intersection of Pereira Drive and West Peltason Drive.

**Mick’s Karma Bar is on 2010 Main St., Irvine, CA, 92614. We hope to see you there.
