September 21st is the day Martial Law was declared in the Philippines by the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, and we commemorate the valiant resistance of the Filipino people. It is ironic that the date coincides with the United Nations “International Day of Peace” or “Peace Day.” Instead of peace, we remember the law that instilled fear and death on our people.
There are indications of a police state and we invoke the event of September 21st to remind us to be constantly and consistently vigilant in the struggle against an oppressive system while we live and struggle in the epicenter of that system. Join us and participate in the pursuit of a better world we all hope for. We will be hosting an interactive educational workshop to discuss the past and present state of Martial Law. Refreshments will be provided.
