I missed out on the Ultra Music Festival held in Miami this past weekend and I’m kind of bummed out. I saw a lot of my favorite electronic dance music DJs put on great shows via the UMF Youtube channel, which made me think even more of all the sun and fun I missed out on in beautiful South Beach. It's okay though, I have a bunch of local, Chicago festivals to look forward to right around the corner.
Chicago has been a great city for music lovers for quite some time now. Local rock, jazz, and blues musicians have been gathering for decades for their respective fests each year. Classical artists and country music enthusiasts can enjoy their music at both indoor and outdoor venues. Most recently, Chicago has been participating in the EDM scene with huge outdoor festivals such as Spring Awakening held inside Soldier Field, Wavefront on Montrose Beach, and North Coast in Union Square Park.
With literally dozens of festivals to choose from, it can be hard to pick and choose which ones you should shell out your hard earned cash for. Here are a few that I want to attend. See you there!
Lollapalooza: Huge festival held in Grant Park. Last year’s lineup included: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Florence + the Machine, Avicii, Kaskade, Alabama Shakes and Childish Gambino.
Pitchfork: A chill fest in Union Park. 2013 Headliners include Bjork, R. Kelly, Belle and Sebastian, and MIA.
Electric Daisy Carnival, Chicago: One of the largest EDM events in the country comes to Chicago for the first time in 2013. Internationally known DJs like Armin Van Buuren, Benny Benassi, and David Guetta will be performing.
Wavefront Music Fest: Great outdoor EDM festival on Montrose Beach with such acts as Duck Sauce, Eric Prydz, Chris Lake, and VisionQuest as past performances.
