It’s been said that any man can father a child, but it takes a real man to become a father to his child.
In my humble opinion, nothing is a bigger testament and affirmation of a man’s manhood than having the opportunity to hold his little bundle of joy for the very first time. I’ve had the distinct pleasure of having done this twice in my lifetime; over seven years ago with my daughter, Faith Anne, and over three years ago now with my son, Jedrick Alain.
Over the years, while fatherhood has its share of obvious challenges (including sleepless nights, worrying, playing referee, etc.), the adventure has also been filled with many sweet pleasures as well. Off the top of my head, these include seeing the look of innocent wonder when they are presented with something new, my little one calling me a “superhero,” having them fall asleep in my arms, and the thanks they give me when I am able to kiss away a “boo boo.”
At the end of the day, much like many other things in this fleeting journey that we call life, it is extremely important to savor the entire experience. After all, today’s moments make tomorrow’s memories – let’s make beautiful ones!
Whether you call him Dad, Daddy, Papa, Papang, Tatay, Itay or Pops, Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful, hardworking fathers and father-figures out there!
