KSCI-TV LA18, Los Angeles' #1 Asian TV station, has selected the multi-talented Giselle "G" Töngi as the new host and producer of its locally produced Filipino talk show, Kababayan Today. As America's first and only daily talk show for and about the Filipino American community, LA18 is excited about the opportunity to associate with Tongi as she takes on the responsibility and opportunity to establish a new and expanding direction for the show.

Kababayan Today provide a platform for discussion of significant local and international issues by featuring information coverage, exceptional interviews and distinguished guests. The show remains the only Filipino media outlet in Southern California and Hawaiia (syndicated on KIKU-TV) to engage with the community at large daily. The highly acclaimed talk show is the nation's longest running locally produced daily program that has consistently served the needs of the devoted viewers by providing resources relevant to Filipino Americans to help them thrive here in the U.S.

Giselle Tongi, known to her fans simply as “G”, is a familiar and respected figure in the Filipino community. She has long been active in the entertainment industry with over two decades of television experience in both the Asian and American market. Primarily recognized for her acting in film, television an theater in the Philippines, winning several award for her work, Tongi is also an accomplished writer and producer. Her past work includes the short film “Pinoy Grease”, “Pinoy Tango,” as well as “The Balikbayan Project:With the Bascos,” a 13-part travel series about a second generation Fil-Am family’s experience in the Philippines. Her most recent stint in Manila was the role of Social Media Producer for Rappler.com, where Tongi contributed for the lifestyle, theater and entertainment section.

Tongi is also a graduate of UCLA with a communications degree and double minor in film and theater. She is more recently defined by the many roles she plays off the stage. She has actively participated in or hosted many events and fundraisers in the Filipino American community. Her personal goals have always been aligned with melding her own bi-cultural identity. Growing up in the Philippines and America has given her a unique perspective, allowing her to value the important of her roots. Tongi says that “to be able to bridge the gap between my own two cultures by creating content specifically for Fil-Ams such as myself is truly the focus of my professional career. To be able to be a voice in my community and be given the chance to represent the Fil-Am experience is also a way to define our culture and identity, which I take very seriously. This keeps me aligned with other people who are also working toward reuniting other Fil-Ams together”.

With Kababayan Today having recently celebrated its eighth anniversary in April 2014, LA18 and KIKU-TV hope to continue the show’s legacy with the new influence of Tongi, establishing a new energy that will further the relationship with the Filipino American community. This is especially true in Hawaii, where ethnic Filipinos comprise the largest segment of Hawaii’s multi-racial population and KIKU-TV broadcasts the only free-over-the-air Filipino programming in the state. Kababayan Today airs weekdays at 4pm on KSCI-TV/LA18 in Southern California, 3:30pm on KIKU-TV in Hawaiia and worldwide at www.LA18.TV/KababayanToday. To further align the show with its new host and producer, its title will change to Kababayan Today with G Tongi (twitter: @gtongi, Instagram: @gtongi)
