Food for Thought: Filipino Tastemakers via NextDayBetter Los Angeles

Food For Thought: Filipino Tastemakers”

NextDayBetter is a creative speaker and food series for diaspora communities around the world. Currently focused on the Filipino diaspora, our events celebrate the inspirational stories of changemakers, community leaders, and innovators and call them to action. With a global footprint that spans from London to New York and Los Angeles to Manila, NextDayBetter is a platform that serves to shine a light on and bolster the efforts of community-minded individuals that are using their rich and varied talents to make the next day better.

NextDayBetter Los Angeles has turned its spotlight on Los Angeles’ fast growing Filipino Food Movement. Filipinos make up the largest Asian American population in Southern California, yet the awareness and availability of Filipino food remains relatively low. Unlike the cuisines of Thailand, Vietnam, Korea and others, Philippine cuisine has yet to gain mainstream appeal. That looks poised to change with a new flock of talented chefs and entrepreneurs who are making waves in the Los Angeles food scene.

The NextDayBetter Los Angeles team announces its lineup for the August 8th event in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles - featuring Filipino chefs, foodies, and restaurateurs:

Speakers:

  • Alvin Cailan, chef/owner of Eggslut and Ramen Champ

  • Justin Garrido, founder of Social Products

Filipino Tastemakers Panel:

  • Charles Olalia, chef/owner of A’postrophe, chef/partner of Ricebar

  • Kathleen Reyes, paleo gourmand and blogger of TheCavery.com

  • Panel Moderator: Samantha Duenas a.k.a. SOSUPERSAM, Style Ambassador, foodie, and DJ from Soulection
